Dog of the Month

Hi my name is Lucky! I first came to FDC in November and my dad has
brought me back several times since then - we travel all the way from
Miami, but if I could tell you - it is so worth the drive!
PS - in case you are wondering, I'm a gorgeous Bernese Mountain Dog!

| Dear Dog Lover ,
Hi Everyone - February was loaded with lots of great "dog friendly"
events in South Florida that FDC had a blast attending (and meeting many of you!) -
Riverfront Jazz Brunch, Barkapalooza at Markham Park, Deerfield Beach
Founder's Day Parade, Pug Picnic at TY Park in Hollywood and The Coconut Creek
Butterfly Festival. We hope you and your family were able to share in
the fun with your family dog! If not, and your dog is bored at home,
then why not bring him/her to FDC for daycare? No more feeling guilty
because you don't have that "extra time" to spend with your dog - we
can help! Call us today - or tell a
friend to come and check us out - 954-360-2871.

What To Do If Your Dog is Lost
We hope you never
have this happen to your family, but wanted to share with you some
important steps to take if it does.
Every day here in Broward County too many dogs get picked up on
neighborhood streets. Most of them never find their way home and many
are euthanized.
· Alert your neighbors and friends.
· Solicit help - reacting quickly is the key to finding your dog and
the more people involved, the better.
· Make "Lost Dog" flyers and signs - get them distributed as fast as
you can so if someone has picked up your dog - they will see the
signs.
· Drop flyers off at local dog businesses including vet/groomers/pet
stores.
· Go door-to-door in your neighborhood and tell everyone you see -
children, school crossing guards, postmaster, and trash collectors -
make sure to leave them a flyer with your contact info.
· Post an ad in the local paper - it's FREE.
· Post a classified ad on www.petfinder.com in the
"Lost" section
· Contact local rescue groups and share your info with them.
· Visit and look for your dog at Broward County Animal Care &
Regulation - keep in mind - there are 2 shelters - one in Pompano and
the big one in Fort Lauderdale next to the airport. More info can be
found on their website, www.broward.org/animal.
Another place to look would be at the Humane Society of Broward County
- off of Griffin Road and I-95. If you live near the Palm Beach or
Miami-Dade county lines - check with the local shelters there too. We
suggest you visit the shelters very frequently just in case your dog
turns up.
· Stay positive and follow up with everyone until you find your
dog.
Remember to be proactive - make sure your dog ALWAYS wears a Collar and
ID Tags - it only takes one time for your dog to slip out of the yard
and get lost.

Did you know?
Many Dog
Breeds Have "Breed Specific"
Rescue Groups?
In addition to "all breed" facilities at Broward County Animal
Care & Regulation and the local humane societies, there are "breed
specific" rescue groups. Most of the groups operate in a very similar
fashion - with an all-volunteer crew, fostering from their homes and
saving one dog at a time. Families who are interested in adopting
usually submit an application and after a home visit is conducted - the
volunteer coordinator helps find a match for that family.
Below are a few local groups that we wanted to share with you. If the
breed you are searching for is not listed - go online and do a search -
this list certainly does not include them all.
